I think this a great topic - I too am targeting reading instruction of specific students in order to raise their STAAR scores. My only question is why are you only planning on doing the tutoring for 8 weeks. Why not do it longer? Just an idea. :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it will be an effective intervention in order to increase student reading achievement.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard of any other schools using this program?
If so, was it affective for them?
I do agree with Mrs. McCord's comment above, in that it might be a more affective program if done longer than 8 weeks.
After doing it for 8 weeks, I would imagine, that the faculty involved and your self, will know whether to continue the program or not.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys! That's a good point. I wanted to start eight weeks before the test so I could use their previous District Assessment grades. That a cummulative test in January. This tests them over all the TEKS they have learned thus far, so I could start the program in January and end it in April right before the test. This would give the students a few extra weeks.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great! Besides the reading passages and quizzes, are you planning on adding guided reading to help with reading behaviors and strategies?
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about that, but I'm not sure if I would have time. I have to teach them the skills they're going to tested on such as; figurative language and inference. Guided reading is definitely something to think about. I just have to see where I could fit it in.
